Cost Of Building A Green Home

Our homes are major sources of pollution: they consume electricity and water, they produce trash and they probably occupy areas that used to be covered with trees. In short, they are little factories spewing out dirt on a daily basis. For that reason a lot of people are switching to green building methods when they build their homes in an attempt to make their dwellings more sustainable. But what is the cost of building a green home? Sustainable architecture is not necessarily more expensive. The primary goal of this approach to building is to reduce the constructions environmental impact, but it can include economical measures. With recent technical improvements, the cost of building a green home can be lower than that of a conventional home, besides boosting the welfare of the people living in the house and the community around it.

Why can the cost of building a green home be lower than conventional methods? Green buildings are designed to be durable and flexible and they reduce lifetime costs in terms of electricity and water.A lot of attention is paid to the conservation of water and electricity and that will yield operational savings. These conservation measures can include, for example, passive solar design, which maximizes the absorption, storage and release of solar power. Green building methods strive for closer harmony with nature; therefore methods employed will tend to vary according to region. Landscaping according to local rainfall rates and installing rainwater catchment systems are other common features related to green building.

Besides the lower cost of building a green home, another advantage of sustainable architecture is well-being. This type of architecture tends to improve day-lighting, air circulation and thermal control, amongst other improvements that can raise living standards and satisfaction. The community also benefits as green homes reduce storm water runoff and watershed pollution, besides other advantages during construction.
