Eco Friendly Bags

We all have to shop at some point and carry things and that’s why plastic bags have become so ubiquitous. Disposable plastic bags have become symbols of all that’s wrong with disposable consumerism. They are produced in billions, end up clogging sewage systems and waterways, they kill sea life and damage human health as well.

These days there are plenty of eco friendly bag options. These usually are more resistant bags that can be re-used indefinitely; they can be made of recycled materials, such as pieces of cloth assembled together and even PET bottles given a second lease of life. Bags can, in fact, be made of almost any material for which there is not much other use. The imagination is the limit.

The fact that many cities such as San Francisco in California and Brownsville in Texas, to name but a few, have banned plastic bags means that eco friendly bags are going to grow in popularity. For most people, re-usable bags sold at the supermarket checkout will be the easiest option.

There have been some alarming reports that these bags contain too much lead. But disposable bags can also be a source of contamination; therefore the wisest action to take is to go for the ones tested by government-approved labs. In a reassuring note, the FDA has said lead is unlikely to come into contact with food. Cloth is probably the best material option to manufacture eco friendly bags. They last longer, can be washed easily, are very resistant and look good too. Those who have sewing skills can easily make one. Those who don’t can find a friend or seamstress who can do that, or simply buy one from the internet or a store.
