Eco Friendly Laptop

As computer and internet usage increases, demand for power supply has risen accordingly and has become a major source of concern. As a computer user, owning a laptop is greener than a desktop because of size, less harmful emissions during manufacturing and compliance with lead-free computing regulations set out by the European Union. Fortunately these days laptops offer the same specs as a desktop while their prices also have fallen considerably. On top of that, you can boost your green credentials by choosing an eco friendly laptop.

An eco friendly laptop may feature OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panels instead of the standard LCD (liquid crystal display). The former are more efficient in terms of energy consumption and manufacturing process. This is the case with LG Electronics "ebook", a recent release being marketed as an eco friendly laptop. Besides, this eco friendly laptop is powered with clean fuels such as methyl alcohol or natural gas and features a special cylindrical hinge to storage such fuels.

Adding a social element to the benefits of an eco friendly laptop is the 'one Laptop Per Child' project, whose mission is to produce a low cost laptop, the "XO Laptop" in order to "revolutionize the way the world's children are educated". The purpose of the project is to get eco friendly laptops in the hands of the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for "collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning". The projects hand-cranked eco friendly laptop is about the size of a small textbook. It has built-in wireless and a unique screen that is readable under direct sunlight for children who go to school outdoors. "It's extremely durable, brilliantly functional, energy-efficient, and fun", say the organizers of the project.

As technology progresses, so will the eco friendly laptop and, who knows, one day it will arrive at the market devoid of petroleum-filled plastic (with bioplastic instead), charged with solar energy and flash memory instead of spinning hard drives (this could decrease energy use by 10 percent). These measures combined with other still unheard-of eco-innovations will transform the eco friendly laptop into the norm, not the exception.
