Geothermal Education Office

From the earths interior comes a power source of heat energy that originates from our planets consolidation of dust and gas over four billion years ago. That is called geothermal power. Geothermal plants use hot water and steam from the earth to run turbine generators. It is clean and it can play an important role in the move towards renewable energy. Interest in geothermal has been growing, thanks partly to the efforts of the Geothermal Education Office.

The Geothermal Education Office is a non-profit organization based in California whose aim is to promote public understanding about geothermal resources and its importance in providing clean sustainable energy while protecting our environment. To achieve that, the Geothermal Education Office produces and distributes educational materials about geothermal energy to schools, energy/environmental educators, libraries, industry, and the public.

The organizations website is sponsored by the Geothermal Resources Council as globally accessible tool to educate the public about the benefits of geothermal energy. It sells educational and classroom materials and makes available files for free download. It also offers videos, books and handouts. The Geothermal Education Office website even includes a map showing the geothermal hotspots of the world.

The Geothermal Education Office says that the outlook for geothermal energy use depends on three factors: the demand for energy in general; the inventory of available geothermal resources; and the competitive position of geothermal among other energy sources. It sounds like were going to be hearing a lot more about geothermal power in the future.
