Solar Security Lights

These days it is possible to equip your home with solar security systems. Solar security lights have become powerful, reliable, and affordable. New generation solar security lights can be placed away from where people can reach. No wiring underground is necessary. Solar security lighting is self sufficient and reliable to activate when it needs to.

Sunlight powers the solar security lights through a solar panel. At night the solar security light starts working when it detects motion in the same way as regular mains powered security lights. The solar panel should face south and be exposed to the sun for as much of the day as possible. If it can get midday sun, even better. If that is not possible, an alternative could be purchasing a fixture with a cable that would enable you to mount the solar panel on the roof on a south or west wall in order to expose it to enough sunlight.

Solar security lights from Innovative Solar Technologies, for example, can be used in several modes to act as either simple floor lighting, spot lighting or only security lighting for the security system. They can be used at the front, in the garage, on the back patio, in the mail box, as driveway lighting or pool patio light. The company says they are easy to install and DIY friendly.

Another company called PowerBee offers a high power solar security light with 45 super bright LED's, besides being movement activated and capable of illuminating 100 square meters. It is designed not only for home security but also for busy locations such as walkways, driveways, public passage ways, frequently used steps, car parking areas or anywhere that good quality light is required. The light unit attaches to the solar panel via a 4.5m cable. The company also offers the Sentinel solar security light, which represents a new level of brightness. Solar security lights should be made of non-corrosive materials such as stainless steel or plastic to avoid damage by moisture. Also, solar security lights that use LED technology have improved and they have become significantly brighter. They use less energy from the battery than other types of lights (such as halogen or incandescent bulbs) and they can last up to 20 years.
