I found that old telephone books make excellent paper towels. Just rip off the cover and tear away.
My dad would drive 10 miles to recycle an old phone book.
They are great in the shop when your hands get greasy and in the kitchen when your hands get greasy.
They are absorbent and the ink does not come off.
