A very peculiar type of legal action between people with trees and those with solar panels has erupted in California, all because of the Solar Shade Act. To cut a long story short, the act protects those people with solar panels from shading made by trees in their neighbor’s property. The International Herald Tribune has an article describing two disputes, which makes for very interesting and amuzing read. Solar panels against trees? To settle the matter Joe Simitian, a Democratic state senator from Palo Alto, has introduced a bill to ensure that trees planted before solar panels are installed will be left alone. It seems only fair, really. The bill will be voted by a committee this month.
