No One ever thinks they will be struck by Lightning. Even Me.

This is how to ruin a perfect day.
Plug Apple Laptop into wrong outlet, and bypass this UPS gear by mistake.

I had 2 power strips, one plugged into UPS, and the other not.
I should have color coded as to which.
The one not is used just for floor fan, vacuuming, lamps and such.

Returning from Europe from 5 months, I mistook which strip to use.
Lightning hit pole behind house and exploded flaming parts 2 houses away. NSP was there for a week digging up the oil soaked soil.

I woke up from explosion outside and to see Apple PowerBook off, and would not come back on.
A $3000 mistake. Power brick, and mother board were fried. Along with other internal components.

Not a good way to start the day.

At least TV, printer, microwave, and other Computers were on the UPS.

One more Mistake made was leaving telephone line plugged into back of PC tower. It resulted in no more modem. Lucky it was only that.

The Big Screen 50" rear projection TV in the living room also did not have protection, and now is dead permanently. It took out the power supply complete, and No One has been able to repair it for over a year.

They cried for a week.

One probably should use a high grade surge protection for the the UPS as well. Even though it's built in.

Here's the deal with cheap surge strips that no one is aware about.
They are only good for one hit.

This is a nice unit, and has capacity if your clever enough, it will keep small lights on during black out for extended time with the dual batteries inside.

Insurance is pro rated for this kind of damage, and will not cover 1/2 the cost.
