4 out of 5 stars Good book on the basics auto electricity   December 22, 2007
Gerard J. Sagliocca (schenectady, ny United States)
This book does a very good job at teaching the basic information for the first auto course. It does have a few errors such as Figure 14-3 should read " Primary Cell Carbon-Zinc battery".

One thing is clear after reading this basic text, and that is, most students don't consider that auto electrical ground connections often are "lost" for a number of reasons, making circuits problematic, or worse yet, inoperable.

The book should be updated in the last chapter dealing with Ignition Systems; and also a new chapter should be added on the new higher car voltage standards being talked about for future models and hybrids.

My son needed this book for a class he was taking and the price for a new book here was much cheaper than the college. He will definitely use Amazon again when he needs textbooks. Book was new and arrived in great condition.

5 out of 5 stars I would agree with what has been stated...   July 6, 2004

This book is about as cool as the other side of the pillow!

It is easy to understand; very basic. But it does not appear to be basic due to a lack of knowledge by the author, but rather, an intentional, well thought-out explanation, presented in such an auspicious way that even the mechanically declined can pick up a nugget of gold or two or three.

The writer from Canada was correct: It is a good instructional book that doesn't get too in-depth. It will give the lay carsmen a better understanding of that beast we call electricity and electronics in automotives, and consequently, will give consumers a better appreciation that their auto technician knows a) what the heck is going on with their car and, b) can fix it.

Two thumbs up to Mr. Chapman. This one's a winner And by the way, it appears as though the author hasn't fallen into the same ignominious pattern as most self-absorbed authors, with an update to their book every quarter or semester.

4 out of 5 stars Un mecanicien qui veut apprendre l'electronic.   November 1, 2003
