Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Solar powered house number sign is learly identifies any address up to 5 digits. Bright numbers are visible from far away and will make it easy for friends, or the Pizza delivery guy to find your house in the dark. No wires, No electrical installation required, No digging up the lawn, No electrical costs. During the day the solar panel gathers the energy from the sun and at night the numbers inside the house number sign automatically light up until dawn. Safe even near water

5 out of 5 stars Good Solar-Powered House Number Device   July 31, 2008

Received the unit this week. Arrived OK, came by USPS, but not well packed/padded by Amazon.

Works well. Easy to change numbers. I don't see how centering can be a problem as the numbers mount in two rows of holes, one at the top and one at the bottom. The most you could be off is ~1/4", use a ruler to lay out the numbers.

Read the instructions. Allow the unit to charge for two 2 days before using the first time. Don't push the On/Off switch on the back until after 2 days of charging.

The photocell that turns the unit on at dark is quite sensitive so you need to make sure that the light isn't exposed to porch, landscape, or street lighting.

Don't expect 15 hours of operation in the winter at northern latitudes.

5 out of 5 stars Solar House Number is a hit!   July 31, 2008

The solar house number sign is perfect for directing where I live. Previously my street number on my home did not show up unless the motion light would turn on, but now my new solar street number sign is lit constantly at nightfall making it easier for friends new to my house to find it.

I bought this product for a home with a 4 digit house number. Not good for this product. You can not space the numbers so they are centered. You will either have a big space first your last. As I was trying to get the numbers in or out the nubmers broke. Not a well built product at all.

3 out of 5 stars Responsive Service / So So Product   March 6, 2008

Good and quick service. One of the plastic stake polls cracked on initial assembly, I called them and the fellow was very kind. He got a replacement and immediately shipped it to me. Unfortunately, the product's performance is mediocre. The lighting is dim but readable at night. The charge does not last all night. It really needs a lot of direct sun light. It's operation is inconsistant. Sometimes it lights and sometimes not, may be a loose connection.

4 out of 5 stars Visible, day or night, yet imperfect(?)   May 1, 2005

I give this a 4 star rating with hesitation (and perhaps prematurely) since I really think this house number sign is okay, but the uneven brightness of this solar light might cause some problems when viewing from in front at, or near, eye-level.
However, the very bright white LEDs are a plus (amber is often dim, less contrast), as is the ability to open the case to make any modifications you might want to do. Simply held together by several screws instead of being glued permanently-- I like that.
I put a crumpled foil sheet inside mine to help prevent the dark zone in the middle. As bought, a somewhat small rectangular stainless steel plate is intended to act as reflector and doesn't really help any. In fact, maybe a pure white piece of plastic, or something, would be best because the reflection is actually showing the darkness outside instead of the LED lights (which are atop the inside).
My photo of it is from before the addition of foil and shows that the illumination is very good from other positions, except directly in front. This seems to be more an effect of the diffused clear plastic (and light-colored interior?) behind the numbers rather than being due to reflected light. In other words, the illumination of that diffuser panel is reflected, at most, but is very dim.
