The light switches on automatically when it gets dark and turns itself off when re-exposed to light or when the battery is fully discharged.  Perfect June 20, 2008
We decided not to put it in water but its just as nice on land. Make sure that you get the size that you want though. They do come in different sizes. Everyboy loves it.
Purchased as a Mother's day gift June 4, 2008
Purchased two of these as a Mother's day gift, it was a big hit. Since taken out of the pool and moved to stands close to the screened patio so they can be viewed longer.
Love this product, but - - - October 31, 2007
We have enjoyed this solar globe light very much, and ordered several more as gifts for friends; but after six months in our garden, working perfectly, somehow water got into the battery area and the light no longer is operable. The first night the ball glowed different colors, looked great. The next day, the battery had a full day of sunshine to recharge, but that night the glow was barely visible. Since then, no light at all. This product was a waste of my money.

The picture is really better than the actual light globe, however it still looks great and I like it
