1 out of 5 stars BAIT AND SWITCH   October 19, 2008

After the box arrived from UPS I was excited to open the set and get an early start on decorating for christmas. I checked the box and noticed that the light set was 50 count not 60 as advertised. Also it was just a little over 23 feet long not 26 as advertised. If you are looking for a 60 light set and expecting a 60 light set don't buy this product because the company is lying to you.
CAN YOU TELL I AM TICKED OFF!!!!!!!

These have worked well for me for about a year. I turned them off in the winter but left them outside. I have them on an arch in my backyard, and they are just perfect for it. They aren't bright enough to really light up an area, but they make the arch look so pretty at night. They are more decorative than functional, but they definitely add to the ambience. I am going to order more. I haven't found any others for less than 3 times as much!

5 out of 5 stars A great landscaping accent product   May 14, 2008

Great for lighting small to medium trees outlining a patio. The light is softer than stander Christmas lights which is nicer for a patio atmosphere. Easy to install and you never have to turn on or off

2 out of 5 stars Sadly: they don't recharge well   April 10, 2008

The mini-LEDs are a great irridescent blue color. With a fully charged battery, they glow for hours. But the solor charger does a very poor job.

My charger is mounted to the glass of an east-facing window, aimed at direct morning sun. Most evenings, the LEDs light dimly for a short while, then fade to black - or else don't light at all. (Overcast day? Nuthin'.) It requires several hours of strong sun to coax these LEDs to even switch on - and then they go dark within a couple hours. I'd like these to work nightly - but instead, about 50% of nights they are completely dark.

The problem isn't with the battery, nor with the LED bulbs. I have manually charged up the AA battery in my in-home AC powered battery charger, then re-inserted it into the solar light system. It illuminated the lights for many hours. I've done that a few times, trying to coax this system to work.

Winter months slip past, coal black LEDs on work stoppage. (How haiku.)

Wouldn't buy again. Wish they worked - they're really nice looking when charged up.

Meanwhile, I have two sets of Malibu brand solar LED spotlights, and they shine almost blazingly almost all through the night, year round. (One faces east, like these LED Christmas lights, the other is south-facing, and both work well even on heavy overcast days.) Furthermore, the Malibu lights can be disconnected from the solar collector.

Not these. This system's lights are hard-wired to the solar collector, so I can't even connect these nice little LEDs to a better charger unless I am willing to rewire the whole thing with a soldering iron.

3 out of 5 stars OK_ Solar string led lights   January 2, 2008

Ok solar lights. It's true as a previous reviewer noted- the color has a slight light/pale blue tint versus a strong white- but not a major drawback.

Good:
- These are built with a replaceable & rechargeable (AA) size back-up battery (a great feature with solar lights, it allows you to replace or upgrade the battery yourself and continue to get illumination on cloudy days. Be watchful of lights housed with a lithium battery- you can not update/replace these batteries yourself- if you live in a year-round sunny place, maybe you won't mind. Otherwise, rechargeables(like Ni-mh or Ni-cd)that can be REMOVED are Ur best bet.
-You'll need yourself a battery charger to recharge your batteries when they're not recharged by the sun.

Not so good:
-A 60 bulb/ 26' string is not that long (you'll probably need more than 1)
- string/ cord is not the best quality =basic plastic green. Not like the thick twisted double-stranded versions on the market
-it is too expensive for the size
