Product Description Sunforce 50012 1.8 Watt Solar Battery Maintainer
Amazon.com Product Description The Sunforce 50012 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer gives you another reason to love the sun--it can help keep your vehicle's battery charged. It provides up to 1.8-Watts or 125mA of power to prevent the natural voltage drain of batteries over time. It includes both a lighter socket adapter and alligator clips to give you flexible connection options. The Sunforce 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer is compact and easy to install. | Convenient Power That Helps Keep Your Batteries Charged The Sunforce 50012 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer lets you harness the power of the sun, the most powerful and plentiful source of energy available to us. Unlike nuclear and fossil fuels, solar power is clean and pollution-free, and the equipment requires very little maintenance to operate. This battery maintainer is designed to stave off the natural voltage drain that 12-Volt batteries undergo over time. It can also maintain the charge of a 12-Volt battery while it is providing energy to small electronics like cell phone chargers. The Sunforce 50012 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer is constructed with durable ABS plastic and features amorphous solar cells. This unit also includes suction cups for easy in-car installation. Since it is designed for use inside of a vehicle, it is not weatherproof and should be kept dry. This battery maintainer is an ideal choice for automobiles, recreational vehicles, and more. Sunforce Solar Panels are effective in areas of both high and lower sun exposure, making them ideal for use in the United States. View Larger | About Amorphous Solar Power Amorphous solar panels are created by spraying silicon on to glass in very thin layers, and are commonly known as thin film solar panels. This process allows them to be better at generating electricity in all lighting conditions, including cloudy or shady environments. They have a maximum operating temperature range of -40 to 176-degrees Fahrenheit, require virtually no maintenance, and are also effective on cloudy days. Solar cells convert sunlight into an electric current; they do not actually store power. The Sunforce 50012 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer is designed to maintain an existing battery charge, and not to fully recharge a battery. It can remain connected to a vehicle battery at all times and will not adversely affect its operation or electrical components. Unless the battery maintainer is permanently mounted, you should remove and store it to prevent physical harm while the vehicle is in motion.

Battery maintainer August 20, 2010 William L. Sandefur (Heart of Georgia) Item works well enough but the plastic shell warps quickly, although it still works. Would recommend it being made from a sturdier plastic.
Great for lightweight batteries August 19, 2010 Autodidact (Brooklyn, NY United States) I have a lightweight battery installed in my car for racing, I found this to be perfect to use to keep that battery charged while its fans are running to cool the car when off the track.
1.8 Watt Solar Battery Maintainer Review July 23, 2010 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought the item to help keep the battery on our camper maintained during a long camping week. We typically could only make it 2 1/2 days on a battery before we needed to recharge with the solar maintainer we made it a little over 3 days. It helped but doesn't bring the battery to full charge after a days use. A 5 watt would probalby work better for us.
Backup Vehicle July 13, 2010 E. W. Glaze 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have an old vehicle I use for junk runs and backup when regular car is in for repair. After sitting for two months I need to recharge the battery. This should keep it charged. I will know the next time I use the vehicle.
works! July 13, 2010 jmeasterling 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought this for a car that I keep at a vacation home and works perfect! The vehicle is only driven a few weekends out of the year so the battery would always be run down when I arrived. The car sits in a parking garage that is open on the sides and even that small amount of sunlight is enough to keep it charged. Amazing. Love it. I've had it for about 6 months now and both times I've been there since Ive installed it it has started perfectly. I do recommend hooking it up to the battery and not the cigarette lighter because I guess in my car when the car is off so is the lighter.
