5 out of 5 stars I love these solar landscape lights...!   November 19, 2008
glt64 (Texas)
I purchased 3 sets of these lights to use as uplighting around the front of my home. I am impressed with the amount of light that these put out and how easy they are to install. Not enough to "shine" through the windows to disturb the darkness but a nice glow to illuminate the landscape. I am going to order 2 more sets for each side, they look kind of bare compared to the front. They are in no way as bright as the electic powered lights but they are just as pretty. I put them out today and a couple of my neighbors approched me this evening and asked me "who did your lighting"...

4 out of 5 stars Good for my camping trailer   November 17, 2008
SonomaRik (sonoma ca)
I have a small trailer we use at a campsite, that sits there without moving. Our only power is solar. I have a 45watt panel array that usually charges the 12volt batter, and powers the Flourescent lights when needed. We use solar other stuff for other things. The dragging about of the array takes time, and is a hassle. I have purchased this LZ413A series for my back yard and love them.

A single detachable panel with replaceable batteries [easy to get to, no screws] is great. The lights plug into the back side, and it looks dressy. My desire was to NOT have to keep placing the individual lights I had previously to get the best sun. This item allows it to be in the best sun always, and the cords to it from each light are light, and with about 12' of cord, which is plenty.

Brightness, well 'ok' not flashlight bright, but close. I have each light with 3 LEDs in it.

I plan to 'wire' into the walls of my trailer, about six of these lights. The battery/panels noted in this pack will be mounted on a bulkhead for easy removal. I plan to have the panels taken during the day, mounted onto the ground to recharge each day, then re-hooked back into the trailer [we always park it in the trees/shady area] during the evening. IF like my backyard ones, it should provide enough light to read or whatever. IF I need more light, then another set. The backyard ones last all night, and hearing of going to a better batter capacity might be my next improvement when I repalce them, whenever that happens.

I've also read of the newer 4 LED set, with more durable housing...not sure if it's worth the cost, but, I usually upgrade when offered, so I might be buying those instead. Either way, I'm satisfied.

1 out of 5 stars Beware!   November 16, 2008

Malibu 3-Pack Solar Landscape Plastic Flood Light Set with Remote Panel, Textured Black #LZ413
The solar flood lights never worked. I moved them to different sunny locations but they never charged enough to emit *any* light. I suppose if one lives in AZ, CA, etc. with no trees or no shade, they might work.

2 out of 5 stars Dim light, LED light quality ghastly   November 10, 2008
Roger A. Knopf (Menlo Park, CA United States)
I charged this according to the instructions and then set them up in my front yard with two of the three lights lighting my birch tree, then went to pick my wife up at the airport. I never said anything about the lights to her, wanting her honest response - they would be right in front of her when she got out of the car. Her response? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Why? Because even at 10pm in the winter the light was so dim that the neighbor's one lamp on a post next door overpowered the light from these. She never even noticed the Malibu solar lights at all.

On top of that the LED light is a ghastly bluish/purplish color. This seems to be endemic to LED since the low voltage LED fixture I tried, also from Malibu but hooked up to a 300 watt transformer, looked exactly the same only a little brighter. In contrast, the three halogen low voltage lights I tried give off a beautiful, sparkling, warm light (and they are BRIGHT!!!).

Took these solar lights to the far back yard where they light the garden shed. Unfortunately, even though I am trying to light an even smaller area closer up all they are good for is providing enough light so that I can find the switch for the real light.

5 out of 5 stars Malibu 3 pack solar lights top of line.   November 3, 2008

I have bought a number of solar lights of late. some to light flags, some of other uses. the Malibu 3 pack solar LZ413 is the best so far! they charge even on cloudy days. Stay light at least until 4am. (that is the latest I have stayed up to see) I was very shocked to see 3 lights work this good with one solar collector. I am using this set in my yard at this time as a test but will set it up at a Memorial set soon and order another set or two for my home. You can't go wrong. They are not regular lights but they light my steps and walkway and front of the house enough to save on electric.
