7 yrs reliable March 4, 2008 Mr Beavis (Oklahoma) I got this when it first came out. I've had it on nonstop since 2001 and I've never had to reboot it. Its connected to a linksys, and 3 machines are connected to it. Speed it good, never did i have it drop connections to the dslam when calls where made. I suspect ill be using it for another 5 years.
Beware of this possible failure mode. August 13, 2007 E. Teyssier (National City, California United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've used the 5360 at my home for about 6 years. It has shown to be susceptible to dropping the Internet connection when someone else in the house picks up the phone to make a call. This weekend was it's last gasp, apparently, as I was unable to connect to my DSL service provider and the field tech says the unit is showing the symptoms of an internal failure, namely, that the lights are sequencing themselves off and on, indicating that it's trying to re-boot itself repeatedly. Yes, when no one else was trying to use the phone, and my DSL company was working, it worked as expected... but I'd really would have liked to have had a more robust and reliable unit.
Works well only with firmware upgrade June 24, 2007 R. Ross (San Jose, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I guess I've used this modem for 5 years or so. The first couple of years it would work well for a couple of months, followed by horrible, persistent connectivity problems. I was constantly calling the ISP for support, and although we could usually get things going, I knew it would only be a matter of time before more problems would surface. Thing was, I couldn't be sure what the issue was, modem, ISP, or the router I added to the mix. After loading various firmware patches to the router, ineffectually, I finally searched for a patch to the modem itself. Guess what, there is one! After applying this patch, voila! Another 3 years of basically flawless service. Until now, it's flaking on me again and I don't know why. Firmware is at the current level, have ISP coming out to check the lines tomorrow. Bottom line, I'm kind of unhappy that the ISP couldn't fix my problems and I found the firmware patch on my own. I view the modem as old technology and prone to problems, but others seem to have had better luck.
Good Experience with it March 1, 2007 DKFC (Houston, Texas United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this modem since Aug. 2003 and had very little problems with it. It is quite a robust unit with consistent speed of above 700kbps downstream. Sadly a power spike 2 days ago might have ended its life, or so according to ATT technical specialist. I might take a closer look at it before pronouncing it completely a goner and get a newer unit. The modem was good but it was offset by a useless D-link DI-614+ wireless router that I kept for nearly 3 years, its wireless connectivity was utmost unrealiable and just when I got a good Linksys system, the modem gave out.
Stable, fast-enough connection for 3+ years December 16, 2006 M. LeBlanc (Danville, CA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This was our first DSL modem of over 3 years, it worked well. Had 2-5 computers on it constantly, downloads averaged at 300kb/s and uploads at 50kb/s. Very impressive out of a 10Mbps half duplex! Now it seems after so long it is finally the modem's time. Either that, or, my dsl service is severely screwed up; the modem seems to disconnect randomly, but consistently, despite resetting it or resetting the line, or even replacing the corresponding router.
