Product Description The Freeplay Summit multi band radio combines the best of radio and self-sufficient energy technology, giving you reliable access to music and global information wherever you are. This top-end radio has a wind-up crank, solar photovoltaic panel, and an AC adapter (included). The key features of the Summit include coverage of 4 wave bands (FM/AM/SW/LW), digital tuning and 30 station presets with excellent sound quality. The radio has an earphone socket for personal listening. The housing is rugged polyurethane elastomer and ABS plastic. It has a regular telescopic antenna, and also a wind-up antenna able to be extended up to 7 meters (22.9 feet) from the radio. In addition, the Summit has an integrated snooze alarm with a backlit LCD digital display panel, letting you read the selected radio station, clock and alarm settings - whether day or night. The Freeplay Summit will play for approximately 30 minutes per 30-second wind (at normal volume), and can be rewound at any time for as much playtime as you want. An LED charge level indicator tells you the best speed to wind. Using the AC adapter, the Summit will reach full charge after 24 hours of charging. Using the photovoltaic panel, it will require about 40 hours of charging to fully charge the internal battery. When fully charged, the Freeplay Summit will offer about 20 hours of playtime. I'm shocked - Can this be a Freeplay product? July 25, 2008 Bargain Finder (Los Angeles, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own a couple of Freeply products and as far as I was concerned they were 'tops'...until I got this radio. 1) I couldn't pick-up ANY shortwave station. 2) I had to continually press the backlight button (which fades-out after a few seconds) to see the frequency. 3) It hardly picked up even AM or FM stations. 4) It was unnecesarily heavy. 5) The tuning was done by a scan up/down buttom and it couldn't lock on any station unless it was exceptionally strong. Now, is that enough to warn you away from this product?
Great Take Any Where Radio June 13, 2008 Melville W. Holland III (Columbia SC USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great little radio. Works well on Crank power and the Solar Panel. Works well on ac and battery charge life is quite long. FM is very good and the AM is about the same. You need the external antenna for Short Wave. Nice and compact with pretty good sound for a radio it's size. I looked at several before I purchased the Summit and glad I did.
