2 out of 5 stars Failure after 22 months   January 23, 2010

Have to agree with most of the reviews that this is a great light until one dark night it stopped working. Tore it open and found the battery terminal was corroded but the battery was charged up to 6 volts. Looking a little further found that the pc board control module has a blue relay (?) that is vibrating and the lamp is barley lit. Cooper Lighting was the mfg of this unit purchased from Lowes. For whatever reason the URL to Cooper's site is not working so finding repair parts is out of the question. The unit did work as expected but probably not worth the price for 2 years of operation.

1 out of 5 stars Started out good then kaput   December 17, 2009

I bought this light because we needed to light our backyard which is very dark. This product seems flimsy right out of the box. I replaced the battery before even mounting it for the first time and let it charge for the alloted four days indicated in the instructions. It worked perfectly for about 3 months then it stopped working all together. I am going to write the company for a replacement but I don't have much hope.

5 out of 5 stars The best solar powered motion light on the market   September 1, 2009

Without doubt, this is the best solar powered motion light on the market.

I bought three different solar powered motion lights eighteen months ago. Two are LED based and this one which is halogen. This particular unit is the heaviest and bulkiest of all three, but it has been the best in every way since I bought it.

The quality of lighting is superb. It provides a very strong light, unlike most of the LED lights which just alter the level of darkness you're standing in. This is one solar light that you can genuinely use as a security light.

I can understand that some people are having trouble with the battery, however. The batteries are lead acid gel batteries that don't particularly cope well with low temperatures and will start to fail more quickly than NiMH batteries. When my battery started to fail about six months ago, I bought another one from a local electrical supplier. The battery I bought is from Panasonic and is especially rated to work in cold conditions and with a higher cycle life than the battery that was installed as standard.

Despite having to replace the battery after one year, I will still give this unit five stars as it is definately the best solar light on the market.

I bought this item 8 months ago and it has already failed! It no longer works at all!

2 out of 5 stars A little better   June 7, 2009

Ours lasted just over a year befor dying as others described. A shame. Good idea badly executed.

UPDATE!!!
The problem appears to be the battery. I replaced the Qualtek 4.0AH that was factory installed with a locally purchased 4.5AH of the same size. The unit is functioning perfectly now.
