Sounds like a great world and one company is working on it. G24i<\/a> is working on a small flexible film that is solar powered. In the article<\/a> for the BBC, Clemens Betzel, the president of G24 Innovations, describes the waste from phone charges and suggests a far better alternative. One of the staggering facts he mentions is that phone chargers waste 60 million pounds, or US$120,000,000 in the UK alone. <\/p>\n

That’s a lot of energy.<\/p>\n

Check out his site. They have just built a site to manufacture these for real applications. Imagine a tent that could generate power. Imagine that tent used in refugee camps. Imagine a backpack that you plug your iPod into so that it charges while you are walking from class to class and even while you are in a classroom since this process can even use indoor lighting. This definitely looks hopeful for putting energy production everywhere and sharing some of the load across the whole grid from many places.<\/p>\n
