Via Right Brain Photography<\/figcaption><\/figure>Walter Kohn, who co-won the 1998 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, said at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, said solar and wind will become the world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s main sources of renewable energy, reports Solar Daily<\/a>.
\n<\/p>\n

Dr. Kohn, from the University of California in Santa Barbara, said that research and development will drive the shift towards a new era of energy generation as oil and natural gas will peak in 10 to 30 years from now. Fossil fuels currently account for 60 percent of global energy consumption.
\n<\/p>\n

Kohn highlighted that in order to get to the stage when wind and solar will become dominant it is important to continue scientific and technical progress in several clean energy alternatives. He added that efforts must be internationally coordinated, since the energy issue is global by nature.<\/p>\n

Over the last decade, photovoltaic power increased by a factor of 90 while wind increased by 10.
