The vessel was financed by eco-businessman Immo Str\u00c3\u00b6her and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Swiss visionary\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Raphael Domian. It is currently undertaking the first circumnavigation of the Earth using only solar power.<\/p>\n<p><!--adsense#300--><\/p>\n<p>The catamaran T\u00c3\u203aRANOR PlanetSolar is 31 metres long and 15 metres wide and is driven exclusively by solar energy. The name T\u00c3\u203aRANOR is derived from the Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien and means \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Power of the Sun\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. <\/p>\n<p>The experimental high-tech vessel has completed the first stage of its voyage across the Atlantic with stops in North Africa, the Canary Islands and the Caribbean to the full satisfaction of its inventors.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We have a goal in showing that we can change, that we have the technology, the knowledge, the means. It is possible for each of us to make a difference and it depends on both our individual and collective responsibility\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, says Raphael Domjan.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We want to show with our project that in addition to the stationary generation of power, solar energy can also provide solar mobility.
