As someone who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s cycled for many years on the streets of London, not one of the most bike-friendly cities in Europe, I was
\nexcited to read on Treehugger<\/a> about initiatives whereby parkings are designed in a way to protect cyclists from opening car doors, which has always been my (and many other people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s, obviously) biggest cycling nightmare. The thought of crashing into a car door while speeding down a steep street is too terrifying but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s founded in a real possibility – and a very dangerous one.<\/p>\n

The video below was made by Street Films<\/a> and it shows how bicycles and cars could and should dialogue peacefully in urban settings. It introduces the concept of a buffer zone and hopefully the idea is going to spread to many cities in the world. Cycling is great, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s green and it should be increasingly safe in order to boost adoption. <\/p>\n
