It&#8217;s a global event that anyone can join.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Among the places that are going to switch off for the planet are Niagara Falls in Canada; Times Square in New York; the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio; Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Big Ben and the London Eye in the UK; the Alhambra in Spain; Eiffel Tower in Paris; Brandenburg Gate, Berlin; Tivoli, Copenhagen; Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe; Kuwait Towers; Milad Tower, Tehran; Davis Station, Antarctica; and the Sydney Opera House in Australia.<\/p>\n<p><!--adsense#300--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nuclear concerns<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/japan_map350.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/japan_map350-253x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"japan_map350\" width=\"253\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/japan_map350-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/japan_map350.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/><\/a>The 2011 edition of Earth unravels amidst a nuclear disaster triggered off by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11.<br \/>\nWhy Files has an <a href=\"http:\/\/whyfiles.org\/2011\/nuclear-nightmare-in-japan\/\" target=\"blank\">in-depth article about nuclear energy <\/a>that I strongly recommend. Whether the nuclear industry likes it or not, nuclear carries plenty of emotional baggage. The technology itself is historically linked to the mushroom clouds over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And because ionizing radiation is invisible, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a case where what you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know can hurt you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Switching off the lights for an hour is a symbolic gesture; switching to renewable energy is a real gesture with a real, positive impact on the environment.
