German has confirmed its green reputation recently with an article published by the online edition of the Deutsche Welle<\/a> about the boom of green energy in the country. Tuis accounted for more than 14 per cent of the country’s use of electricity, up from 12 per cent in 2006. <\/p>\n

“Energy drawn from wind, solar, water, biomass and thermal heat accounted for 9 percent of Germany’s total primary energy consumption last year, reducing the country’s greenhouse gas emissions by 115 million tons, the association said. That’s equivalent to CO2 emissions emitted in one year by a city the size of Cologne, which has around a million inhabitants”, said the article.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere the Norwegian Renewable Energy Corporation<\/a>, speaking at its annual capital markets yesterday, said it was confident that solar energy is becoming increasingly competitive in relation to other sources, at a quicker pace than previously thought. Chief executive Erik Thorsen said the company remains focused on bringing down the cost of solar panel production as a way of improving profitability.<\/p>\n
