{"id":453,"date":"2008-01-23T07:42:06","date_gmt":"2008-01-23T07:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/ftse-launches-environmental-index\/"},"modified":"2017-09-05T17:54:52","modified_gmt":"2017-09-05T21:54:52","slug":"ftse-launches-environmental-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/ftse-launches-environmental-index\/","title":{"rendered":"FTSE launches environmental index"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right off\" src=\"http:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/alt-energy-investing.jpg\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftse.com\">FTSE<\/a> Group, the global stock markets index company, has launched the FTSE ET50 Index, made up of the largest fifty pure play environmental technology companies by market capitalisation worldwide, with an investable market cap of USD161,216m. <\/p>\n<p>The constituents are taken from a pool of over 500 global companies currently researched by Impax, the specialist environmental investment manager, who has partnered with FTSE to develop a range of indices within the environmental technology space.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Still on the business side of environmental damage control, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gemi.org\">Business and Climate Change Website<\/a> has a report about Pfizer&#8217;s adoption of solar power at its La Jolla, CA facility, a project that was implemented in May 2007. The goal of the project is to help Pfizer meet 35 percent of its electricity needs by 2010 through the use of &#8220;cleaner&#8221; energy technologies, such as co-generation. <\/p>\n<p>Nearly 1,400 photovoltaic panels were installed at the facility. The 240-kilowatt-system is expected to produce 400 megawatts of electricity annually\u00e2\u20ac\u201dabout the amount of electricity needed to power 80, 4-person homes one year. In addition, the solar power system will reduce Pfizer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s carbon dioxide emissions by 250 tons per year.   <\/p>\n<p>Pfizer says that the project wouldn&#8217;t be financially justifiable to begin with, but it chose to &#8220;move ahead with installing the project due to the numerous intangible benefits, including lowering GHG emissions. Working with the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s finance organization, Pfizer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Green Building Team is making renewable energy more practical and economically viable by trying to factor in the future cost of emissions.&#8221; That&#8217;s what some people would call &#8216;foresight&#8217;.  <\/p>\n<p><!--adsense--><\/p>\n<h3 class='related_post_title'>Related Posts:<\/h3><ul class='related_post'><li>No Related Posts Found!
