{"id":500,"date":"2008-03-04T07:36:42","date_gmt":"2008-03-04T07:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/wind-farms-and-birds\/"},"modified":"2017-09-05T17:54:51","modified_gmt":"2017-09-05T21:54:51","slug":"wind-farms-and-birds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/wind-farms-and-birds\/","title":{"rendered":"Wind farms and birds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right off\" src=\"http:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/save-energy.jpg\">American wildlife conservationists have issued a warning that wind farms might drive whooping cranes, the lattest North American bird, to extinction if proper studies are not carried out before installing mills. &#8220;Companies want to put their farms where the best wind is, and that overlaps with the migration corridor of the whooping crane,&#8221; Tom Stehn, the whooping crane coordinator of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, told <a href=\"http:\/\/afp.google.com\/article\/ALeqM5gpNw-Q067tHJiNpV-GDzbbTcDctg\">AFP<\/a>. &#8220;There are areas where we know large numbers of whooping crane stop (during migration) and we would like wind companies to avoid those areas, with a good buffer zone,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Concerns about the impact that windmills are not new and pressure has been mounting over the years to avoid cases like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/nation\/2005-01-04-windmills-usat_x.htm\">this<\/a>.
