\"Ban<\/a>The United Nations has put renewable energy at the top of its agenda in 2012.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“We can create jobs that will stimulate economies and provide universal access to all the people,” said the UN\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. “That is why the General Assembly has declared next year as the International Year for Sustainable Energy for All<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n

He added that providing renewable energy to the 1.4 billion people living without electricity is a priority of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made earlier this week during a meeting with National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) researchers.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that alternative energy<\/a> can create jobs, address climate change, empower women and create food security.<\/p>\n

The UN hopes that by 2030 every village in the world will have electricity. It wants renewable energy capacity to double by that same year.<\/p>\n
