He&#8217;s become known for creating a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleantechblog.com\/2008\/05\/secrets-of-curitiba.html\">strategic vision of cities for people, not for cars.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As one of Brazil\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s most popular mayors, Lerner was elected three times. He helped transform the southern city of Curitiba from a collection of shanty towns to a pleasant and sustainable city of three million.
