\"\"<\/a>The hydrogen-fuelled Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell was one of the stars at the EcoIslands Global Summit on the Isle of Wight, UK. It was used to transport the Minister of State for Energy, John Hayes, from the ferry to the Summit by TV presenter and motoring expert, Quentin Willson (see video at the bottom).

The inaugural Global EcoIslands Summit 2012 brought together representatives of a wide range of community, business and government sectors. Attendees had the opportunity to catch a first-hand glimpse of the foundations of the project on the Isle of Wight and made their own public commitments by signing the EcoIslands Accord. The agreement’s objective is to enable islands and regions around the world to achieve renewable energy self-sufficiency by 2020 and sustainability by 2030.<\/p>\n

The model is part of the the zero-emissions fleet that will be used on the Isle of Wight as part of the EcoIsland project. They will be supplied by one of two grid-connected hydrogen refuelling platforms, both of which are being designed and installed by ITM Power as part of a Technology Strategy Board (TSB) backed project to develop a test bed for hydrogen fuel on the island.<\/p>\n

The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell will become commercially available between 2012 and 2015, when up to 1,000 units will be delivered. After 2015, another 10,000 units will be produced.<\/p>\n
