This year&#8217;s calf prices, meanwhile, are the lowest since 2002 putting pressure on the many smaller, family run cow\/calf operations spread across the Mountain West&#8221;, continues the report.<\/p>\n<p><!--adsense#300--><\/p>\n<p>Without wanting to indulge in a bit of <em>schadenfreude<\/em>, a lovely German word that means pleasure in other people&#8217;s misfortunes, I do welcome any move away from animal farming, especially in favor of renewable energy. As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.energyrefuge.com\/blog\/vegetarianism-and-climate-change\/#more-591\">we&#8217;ve reported before<\/a>, livestock accounts for the emission of more greenhouses gases than transport, or 18% against 13%, besides being a major force of deforestation and wildlife displacement.
